2EM is a peer-to-peer car rental platform. A quick review on its strengths.

You can either look for a car or offer a car into the pool for others. Sign-up itself is free if not used, you just need to submit your licence details.

Strengths

  • Often much cheaper rentals than with the major rental players.
  • Quite a bit of availability of cars (regular/electric/vans etc) that can be searched

Weaknesses
  • It's a peer to peer platform so experiences may be up to the owner/provider. In one case a rental was cancelled just a day before the rental as the car was supposedly broken down.
  • A deposit needs to be paid with credit card ahead of the rental. This can be refunded afterwards but having to pay it in advance feels a bit strange.
